Four-year-old Arrogate, owned by Prince Khalid bin Abdullah Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, won the US$10 million (AED36.7m) Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday.Arrogate finished the 2000m race, the world's richest race meeting, after tough competition from American runner-up Gun Runner.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, presented the gold cup and the $10 million prize to the son of prince Khalid.
Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, congratulated the winner, and expressed his delight at the participation of horses from the UAE, along with contenders from the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, and a number of African and European countries.
''Dubai World Cup deserves competition among the world's top racing stars for its moral value which is more valuable than the cash prize,''HH said.
He also congratulated winners of the other main races.
Dubai World Cup is the final of nine high-class races. 14 horses contested the race.
California Chrome won last year's cup.
